Construction Recruitment Isn't Broken Because Of Bad People. It's Broken Because Of A Bad Process.
I have seen strong Project Managers overlooked.
I have seen people placed into roles that did not suit them, not because they lacked ability, but because nobody had properly understood what the role required or what the candidate could genuinely offer.
I saw that happen too often across construction consultancies, across projects, and across years working in the industry.
I’m Rob Smith, Founder of Hynd & Partners.
Before starting the business, I built my career as a Project Manager in construction consultancy in London and Oxfordshire, having started out in site management. I did the job myself. I managed programmes, handled client relationships, and worked closely with talented people across live projects.
That experience showed me a clear problem.
Too often, the process of hiring Project Managers in this sector fails both sides. Clients do not get the people they actually need. Candidates are not represented in a way that reflects their real capability. And too often, there is a gap between what the role truly demands and what the recruiter understands it to demand.
That is not a criticism of effort. It is a problem of understanding.
You cannot properly assess a role you have never done. You cannot ask the right questions if you do not know what strong answers sound like. And you cannot represent a candidate properly if you do not understand what good performance looks like in practice.
That is the gap Hynd & Partners was built to close.
I also coach American football as Defensive Coordinator at London Blitz. That background sharpened something I already believed: talent assessment matters. Building a strong team means understanding where people fit, where they will thrive, and what they contribute beyond a CV.
I am also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, MCIOB. That reflects the standard of professionalism, rigour, and accountability I bring to this business.
Hynd & Partners works exclusively with project management consultancies in London. We focus solely on permanent appointments, from Assistant Project Manager through to senior delivery leadership. We work on a small number of assignments at a time so each search is handled properly, with structure, discipline, and clarity.
I am not going to pretend I have been in recruitment for twenty years.
What I do have is something I believe matters more in this market: real experience of the job I recruit for, a disciplined approach to search and assessment, and a commitment to representing both clients and candidates properly.
This industry has good people in it.
They deserve a recruiter who understands the work.
That is why Hynd & Partners exists.
If you are a consultancy looking to hire Project Management talent properly, let’s talk.
If you are a Project Manager who wants to be represented by someone who understands what you actually do, let’s talk.
